First United Pentecostal Church began under the leadership of Founding Pastor Ellis E. Cooper in late 1956 in Cookeville, TN. The mission congregation of only two or three families purchased a small furniture store building at 1810 N. Dixie Ave. and converted it into a worship sanctuary. The first services in that building were held in early 1957. This 20’ x 40’ block building was torn down in 1961 to make way for a complete new worship and educational facility. Growth necessitated another major expansion in 1991 when the congregation built a new sanctuary and additional educational space adjacent to the existing facility.

 

In 1998, Ron Phillips joined the First Church staff as associate pastor under Founding and Senior Pastor Ellis E. Cooper. He became senior pastor upon Pastor Cooper’s retirement in 1999. The First United Pentecostal Church of Cookeville continued to experience growth, and seeing the need for expanding again in the near future, the Church purchased over nine acres of property at 853 S. Walnut Ave in 2002. A master plan for the property was designed, and then construction began on a new worship facility in August 2007. The first service was held in the newly completed 21,000 sq. foot facility in December 2008.

 

First Church continues to grow and expand with the Leadership of Pastor Josh Hodum. The Church is reaching further than ever before into the Cookeville community and the surrounding areas.
