The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to
the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the
acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:18-19
This is truly the mission of
those involved in the jail ministry through First United Pentecostal
Church. It is our mission to bring light to those bound in darkness
and blinded by the sins of their past.
This is probably one of the main
areas where we put our mission statement to the test. We do believe
that through Christ, everyone has a future and the past can soon be
of no relevance.
Working along with God's Jail
Ministry of Putnam County, men and women of First Church minister
twice each week to the men and women incarcerated in the Putnam
County Jail. On occasion they also minister in the Overton County
Jail.
As an extension of this ministry,
some continue to correspond with inmates in prisons accross the
state of Tennessee and surrounding states.
Part of this ministry provides
Bibles, folders, Bible studies, and reading glasses to inmates. Your
prayers and financial support are appreciated.
Along with the Bible studies and
contact within the jail, those involved also serve as mentors to
inmates after their release. This involves assisting with
transportation, job search, and being prayer and accountability
partners.
We believe that God can make a
difference in anyone's life. Through Him, addictions are broken,
past habits become no more, and there really is abundant life for
those who seek Him.
